SINOPSIS
The vivid vision of Soekarno to declare Student City of Jakarta at Rawamangun Campus, on September 15th, 1953, is obviously a monumental legacy for a common heritage and national memory for Indonesia. This legacy appears to be absolutely vital to renew it as virus for achievement not only for developing Indonesian universities to meet world class university criteria, but also as a triggering factor to develop all municipalities and capitals to meet Student City criteria.
Data indicates that out of 514 cities and regions across Indonesia, 416 are districts and only 98 cities. However, only a few cities could host more than three reputable universities which meet national and international standards.
This study adopts QS and Times Higher Education criteria with some minor readjustments to meet Soekarno’s vision to find related data to justify those selected cities for their ranking as best student cities across Indonesia.
This study addresses five critical issues and questions; first, how many cities and which ones as home to host more than three reputable universities accredited “A” nationally; next, which cities are free or the lowest rate of crimes; third, which city is the most affordable for students cost of living; fourth, which city is the most prospective for students to find job both after graduation or during their study for part-time job; lastly, which city is the most attractive destination for students to get their higher education and mostly visited by domestic and foreign visitors.
These five criteria will be adopted to find out which are the best student cities out of 514 cities and districts across Indonesia at this year by using the previous year data.
